Video Chains

I recently tested this idea out on my students. I gather

a group of people and have them all lie down on the

floor, end to end, and pass a video camera over their

heads to one another. The camera records its journey

over these bodies and some of the surrounding

environment. The first person in the chain gets up

and lies down at the last spot in the chain. This way,

the chain keeps moving throughout a space. This maps

a space differently, using the body as a ruler and time

as a unit of measure.

Talking Heads

Through Craigslist, I met a few fantastic MFA students

from Portland State University. We decided to get

together once a week for conversation and wine.

We each trained a video camera on ourselves

to document ourselves as we sat around a circular

table. The idea was to have these topical discussions

("What is identity? Why do we wear clothes?") and then

later replay these roundtable discussions on several

monitors synched up, again around a table.

We are still sorting through this footage.

Awareness project

Every day for five minutes I will record myself

as I narrate my awareness of the present moment.

I will just say every thing I am observing and sensing

and feeling. I wonder what will happen after I do this for

several weeks or months. Will I be more in tune

with myself all the time? More aware of my surroundings?

More in tune with other people?

Tiny Audiences

I want to make video artworks for individuals. Each performance

video piece will be conceived of and executed for one person I

have in mind. I will then share the work to this audience,

probably by sending a DVD through the mail.

Pie Releases

This is an old idea that it's time to try out. I'd like to get good at

making pie. Then, I want to bake pies and cut them up into six

pieces and mail them to groups of six people at a time and

include information about the pie recipients so that they know

who they are sharing pie with.
